Fastest method
Select or copy 🤝, then paste it into the destination. Use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V on Windows, Command+C and Command+V on macOS, or press and hold to copy and paste on a phone. The buttons on this site use the browser clipboard when available and a temporary local text field when clipboard permission is restricted.
Windows
Windows 10 and Windows 11 include an emoji panel. Click a text field, press Windows key + period, search for “handshake” and choose 🤝. Older systems may lack color artwork or show a square box. Copying may still work, but updating the operating system or using a modern browser improves support.
macOS
Press Control + Command + Space to open the Character Viewer. Search for handshake and double-click the result. The character can be inserted into Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages and most social platforms. It remains editable text, so appearance follows the destination application and Apple emoji font.
iPhone and iPad
Open the emoji keyboard, use search or browse the people and body category, then tap the handshake. To copy from a webpage, press and hold the character, choose Copy and paste it into the target app. Recent systems may show skin-tone choices after a long press.
Android
Open Gboard, Samsung Keyboard or another installed keyboard, enter the emoji panel and search for handshake. Exact placement varies by keyboard version. Older Android releases may support the base character but fail to render mixed skin-tone sequences correctly.
Social profiles and messages
The emoji can be pasted into posts, comments, display names, bios and direct messages when the platform accepts emoji. Some username systems restrict symbols. Test the saved result because platforms may normalize spacing, replace artwork or count a multi-code-point sequence differently.
HTML and shortcode methods
The HTML decimal form is 🤝 and the hexadecimal form is 🤝. In a UTF-8 document, using the actual character is usually simplest. The shortcode :handshake: only works when an application actively converts shortcodes; it is not universal HTML.
Troubleshooting
If the pasted result is an empty box, the destination font or system probably lacks support. Try a newer browser, update the device or use a transparent PNG. If clipboard permission is blocked, manually select the emoji and use the system copy command.
When plain text copy is the better choice
Use the Unicode character when the destination supports normal emoji text. It stays searchable, can be resized with the surrounding font and usually adds almost no file weight. Plain text is ideal for messages, captions, comments, profile descriptions and document headings. A PNG is more useful when a design tool does not render emoji consistently or when exact placement matters.
Troubleshooting a missing or square symbol
A blank box usually means the current operating system, browser or font cannot display the character sequence. First update the device and try a modern browser or messaging app. Paste the base handshake without a skin-tone modifier if an older system struggles with the full sequence. For web code, keep the page encoded as UTF-8 and include the character directly or use a valid decimal or hexadecimal entity.
